Symbolism Project

What is the name of the Current Novel you are reading?

"Point Blanc"

What is the "basic idea" of the story (min 3 paragraphs) - please remember i have not read the story , provide me with a basic understanding of the novel.

Alex Rider is a 14 years- old kid who was assigned by MI6 to investigate the deaths of two billionaires, Michael J. Roscoe from U.S. and General Viktor Ivanov from Russia. Both of them had a son attending Point Blanc, an academy in the French Alps run by a South African scientist, Dr Hugo Grief. Many rebellous, rich kids have attended in this school because they were "bad". Alex has no time to choose and forced to listen the Agents. Alex to 's cover is that of the son of a supermarket owner, Sir David Friend.

Alex is taken to a hotel on the way to Point Blanc, and his dinner drink is drugged, causing him to faint. He was transported to a laboratory. Doctors took off all his clothings, and examined every inch of his body and photographed for unknown reasons...

After he arrived the school, he got a new friend called James. He told Alex that the school has some sercet in it. James has been in the school for six weeks but no one taught him anything. More than that, the kids who used to be rebellous become complacent. What Alex didn't know is the kids has been cloned by Dr Hugo Grief. He planned to dominate the world with his clones. Alex has no time to think and he is only one who can help the world.

In the current novel your reading are their any gender stereotypes or symbols you have picked up on . Please explain

--Not many gender stereotypes base on the story, but the novel has portraited a African woman, who named is Eva Stellenbosch, as " musclebound". I think it is stereotype for Arican woman.

What is ALL the characters in your current novel were male.? Please explain how that would affect the novel .

--Since this is the novel about spys, it will be interesting. Because of many guys likes the element of actions as they read.

What is ALL the characters in your current novel were female? Please explain how that would affect the novel.

--The novel will change completely because this novel is based on a boy's life. I can't imagine how the story goes if all characters are girls.

Please provide the definition of SYMBOLISM in your own words.

--I think symbolism is a sign of an objects or gestures that can connect something common to any particular people.

Controversial Science of 2009

Why did you pick this topic?

What is your stance on this article? WHY?(this should be at least 1 paragraph response)

Why do YOU think this article was selected as one of the TOP Controversial topics of 2009?

Spanking bad for the brain

I do agree to the research. The parents in now days are trying to make their children listen to them. They are willing to use any method, included hitting the children. But they don't realize how much damage that they have caused over years. Like spanking the head, that may stun the childrens' development. I think every parent should be aware to this research.

Dinosaurs succumbed to toxic algae

It is very interesting because no one know the truth to the end of the dinosaurs. It may be the truth. But no one knows which is right because many theories stated they are right. Some say the ice age cause the races of dinosaurs vanished. But some say the most dinosaurs died in asteroid impact. Sometime I wish I can go back in time and see what happened.

Fetuses have memories

I think this is awesome. Fetuses can think while they are still in the womb? So we may have a chance to "hear" the world( since we can't "see" it). But this reseach also bring up a good question: If we choose to get a abortion, then... are we killing a "life"? I think people want to get an abortion should think twice.

Our ancestor, 'Ida?'

When I look this research, my mind was like "WHAT?". Our ancestor was a 9.4 in. animal? This is amazing. Ida has a very long tail, but we have none. Also our appearences do not look ida at all! I think the mother nature has created us for a reason, which I don't know yet.

Guggenheim Reflections

1.) Your first impression of the Guggenheim

I think it's a very fashion building. It's look outstanding compare to other building that are surrounding it.

2. ) Any feelings you felt or experienced as you walked through the musuem

I thought I saw the heaven sky as I am looking up the celling. The natural light comes down stright to the lobby. In some way it gives me the energy and keeping me awake.

3.) Your thoguhts about the artist work on display

I bet many people have no idea as they 1st look at this artist's work. Some were very confusing, with the help of the audio record. I unterstand many art pieces have somewhat a hidden message or some expressions from an artist. It's very interesting and I have open my mind a little bit.

4.) What were your expectations before we went on this trip? Where your expectations met?

To be honest I was thinking to go try out the "bed", but it has been ship to other side of the US. Little disappointed, but I very excited as I see the building. I do agree the building is much better than the art work.

5.) Any suggestions for next year?

It's very annoying as you walking around without knowing where to go. The building is big, and it does has many hidden entrances. I was walking to same gallery over and over again. I don't even have chance to find more awesome work.

6.) What was your favorite part of the trip(do not put wendys)

I like the building as I stated before. I loved the art work called the "Memory" because this art piece was made of tons of iron. It covered almost 3 rooms. We will never this art piece as a whole. We can only imagine it. I think that's why it called "Memory".
