Somerset Patriots Field Trip

#2

Bridgewater, NJ- I have never attended a baseball game in my life. I always believe baseball is tedious, after I went to the TD ballpark to watch my first baseball game. I would say it completely change my view toward baseball. Everything happened went nice and smoothly. Although the gloomy weather was a factor to watch the game, but it couldn’t cover the fans’ joy to see their favorite teams gain their victory.

It was the Somerset Patriot against the Camden Riversharks at its home stadium. While the member of staffs were wetting the field to avoid dust emerge at any point during the game. On the other hand, both teams were throwing ball to get loose. While they were setting up the game, I went to the stores that surrounded the stadium. To start of, I went to the team gear shop to buy my 1st “finger” in my life. As I walked pass retailers, Hog Dogs, funnel cake, even domino pizza are in my vision. Not only food, I saw many kids wore their “hero” team’s jersey (mostly Patriots). I saw a kid has a sign said, “Go! Patriots…!” I didn’t expect that would happen in a minor league. This kind of enthusiasm shocks me in many ways, like a caveman gets a culture shock.

As I return to my sit, I start to feel my soul is burning as the game begins. I thought game will start at the 1st pinch. I was completely wrong, the Patriot mascots, Sparkee and Slyder came out and got the crowd raise up their tension before or during the game. As they were making cheer, I saw the flat screen that located by the ballpark showed the country’s flag. The whole crowd stood up and sang the national anthem, The Star-Spangled Banner. Once again, Baseball has made our country proud.

Suddenly without any notice, the SpongeBob theme song burst out front of the crowd. With the face of SpongeBob showed up on the flat screen, the whole atmosphere again, was full of joy. The elementary kids on my front rows attracted my attention. They wore the glow green T-shirt with Somerset patriot logo on their back. They danced as they listen to the song! I imagine them as the high school grown ups’ in a party. They all went nuts. I didn’t realize, they’ll be my nightmare throughout the whole the game… Finally, after hours of boredom, the game began with Riversharks on the base, making its 1st run in the 1st inning. Before I cheer for the patriots… the kids in front of me already stood up and cheer, with a mixture of spiteful slag and swear. I was surprise about their behavior. I always believe high school teenager don’t behave. They were worse than the high school kids. Their actions have spoiled my mood to watch the game. Their cheer properly didn’t get their “heroes” ears. Riversharks make one more run while Patriots made two. I was anxious but I couldn’t do anything but cheer. Because of the time condition, I have to leave before I could finish the game. The game ended with Riversharks victory over the Patriots with 5-2. I felt a little bit sad because the Patriots lost in their home, but I hope they would make a come back and win another time.

Even through the kids in front of me acted like animals, but something else has already got my interest. The little games for kids while teams were switching position during innings. Some of the games that were played as a fan chosen by the staff had to run to home plate and beat Sparkee (or Slyder) in order to win a prize. Also they chose kids to play musical chairs. These games certainly draw the crowd attention towards the game. The flat screen in the stadium always shows signs to encourage people to make some noise to cheer the Patriot… That makes me love about baseball. Not only just the baseball game itself, is also the things around stadium bring my excitement up to the boiling point. After the game, if anyone invites me to any baseball game. I will be the person’s guest. Baseball definitely brings family joy and it is full of entertainment. I would ask my parents to bring me to a baseball game in a future. I’m looking forward and wait to watch another baseball game. My soul is already heats up! Go Patriots!

Eric_Smith

According to court documents, Smith was often tormented by bullies for his protruding low-set ears, thick glasses, red hair and freckles.
The murder case made national headlines, largely due to the young ages of the killer (13 years) and of the victim (4 years).

Smith attracted Robie to a remote location in a park. There Smith strangled Robie, dropped a pair of large rocks on the boy’s head, undressed his body, and sodomized him with a tree limb.

The cause of death was determined to be blunt trauma to the head with contributing asphyxia.

Two days after Robie's funeral, Smith admitted to Robie's killing. In 1994 Smith was convicted of second-degree murder and sentenced to the maximum term then available for juvenile murderers — a minimum of nine years to life in prison.
